HOUSTON – A Fort Bend County woman has brought a wrongful termination lawsuit against a Conroe nursing home, stating she was falsely accused of workplace theft because of her race.

Angela Agbongiague filed the suit against Conroe SNF Real Co LLC in the Houston Division of the Southern District of Texas on July 3.

Formerly employed as a nurse by the defendant at its Brightpointe at Rivershire facility, Agbongiague asserts she was helping a patient on Dec. 18, 2017 when “a bottle of Tramadol was apparently stolen.”

Another nurse approached (her) and told (her) that (she) “needed to gather her things and leave the site because the administrator, David Holt, believed (she) stole the bottle of Tramadol,” the suit says.

Court papers further state that Agbongiague spoke the Holt about the incident in question and learned “(he) believed the plaintiff stole the bottle because she was black.”

The complainant says she “was eventually fully exonerated because the bottle of Tramadol was found in the possession of a different nurse who would later confess,” but the nursing home forbade her from returning to work.

Consequently, Agbongiague seeks unspecified monetary damages and a jury trial.

She is represented by Clayton D. Craighead of Houston.
