HOUSTON – A Houston woman alleges that she was terminated by a Harris County nursing facility after she was injured on the job.

Debbie A. Durant filed a complaint on July 3, in the Harris County District Court against Northpointe LTC LTD, doing business as Grace Care Center at Northpointe, alleging wrongful termination, premises liability and other counts.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff began her employment with the defendant in September 2015 as a certified nurse aide. The suit states July 3, 2016, she sustained several herniated discs in her back and torn ligament in her knee when she slipped and fell while trying to enter a resident's room. She alleges she was terminated by the defendant because she was unable to return to work because of her injuries and is now considered disabled.

The plaintiff holds Northpointe LTC LTD responsible because the defendant allegedly retaliated against her and fired her while attempting to recover from her serious injuries she sustained while working.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks actual and exemplary damages, plus interest and all costs. She is represented by Adjua Umoja-Justice of The Justice Law Firm in Houston.
