HOUSTON – A condominium association is alleged to have failed to inspect a woman's unit before a fire made it uninhabitable.

Suyun Lucy Xie filed a complaint on July 11 in the Harris Circuit Court against Sugar Branch Condominium Association, also known as Cachet Corp. alleging negligence and premises liability.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges in 2016, she purchased a condominium unit 265 located at 10110 Forum Park, Building K in Houston and that the defendant was formed and created to manage the property. She alleges beginning in February, she notified the defendant that the temperature in her unit exceeded 100 degrees and the defendant failed to act. The suit states on March 3, a fire erupted in the boiler room adjacent to her unit, rendering her unit uninhabitable.

The suit states that the Houston Fire Department Arson Bureau determined the cause of the fire was an electrical malfunction in the boiler room equipment.

The plaintiff holds Sugar Branch Condominium Association responsible because the defendant allegedly failed to take actions to inspect her unit and boiler room to prevent a fire or explosion.

The plaintiff seeks maximum relief of $500,000 and such other and further relief to which she is justly entitled. She is represented by Jack F. Holmes of The Gbenjo Law Group in Houston.
