HOUSTON – A seaman alleges he was injured on a vessel when a metal tile fell on his head and neck.

Casey Way filed a complaint on July 26 in the Harris County District Court against Helix Energy Solutions Group Inc. citing the Jones Act.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that on June 19, 2017, he was employed by defendant working aboard its Helix Producer I when a 6-foot metal tile fell and struck him on the head and neck. The suit states it is believed the tile was missing required screws. He alleges he sustained serious injuries to his neck, shoulder, arms and other parts of the body as a result.

The plaintiff holds Helix Energy Solutions Group Inc. responsible because the defendant allegedly failed to properly train and supervise its employees; failed to inspect, maintain and repair equipment; and failed to provide appropriate medical attention.

The plaintiff seeks judgment against the defendant in a sum exceeding the minimum jurisdictional limits of the court, with interest, costs and such other and further relief to which he is justly entitled. He is represented by Kurt B. Arnold, J. Kyle Findley, Kala F. Sellers and Adam Lewis of Arnold & Itkin LLP in Houston.
