Former employee of Walmart distribution center alleges race was factor in termination

GALVESTON – An African-American male alleges his race was a factor in his termination from a Baytown distribution center.

Deveron Paddio filed a complaint on July 30 in the Galveston Division of the Southern District of Texas against Walmart Associates Inc., Walmart Stores East LP and Walmart Inc. alleging that they violated Title VII of the Civil Rights Act.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff began working for the defendants in 2003. He alleges his white supervisor treated him poorly because of his race and in retaliation for the plaintiff's complaints of race discrimination. The suit states he was terminated Feb. 1.

The plaintiff holds Walmart Associates Inc., Walmart Stores East LP and Walmart Inc. responsible because the defendants allegedly maintained a policy of race discrimination.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks back pay, front pay and/or reinstatement, compensatory and punitive damages, interest, attorney's fees, costs and such other and further relief to which she may show she is justly entitled. He is represented by Bruce A. Coane and Matthew P. Swiger of Coane & Associates PLLC in Houston.
