HOUSTON – A registered nurse alleges she was terminated by a Harris County hospital for illegal reasons.

Homa Ottum filed a complaint on Aug. 8 in the Harris County District Court against Houston Methodist Hospital alleging that the former employer violated the Texas Occupations Code and the Texas Health and Safety Code.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff was employed by the defendant at Houston Methodist St. Catherine Hospital. The suit states in April, the plaintiff filed a complaint with the Texas Health and Human Services Commission over patient-safety concerns and an investigator came to the hospital to investigate.

She alleges after making the complaint, her manager began harassing her and arbitrarily accused her of "inappropriate actions." She was terminated June 1 for allegedly not scanning in medication, which she alleges is false.

The plaintiff holds Houston Methodist Hospital responsible because the defendant allegedly discriminated against her and fired her in retaliation for making a protected complaint.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks damages of more than $1 million and such other and further relief to which she may be justly entitled. She is represented by Nitin Sud of Sud Law PC in Bellaire.
