GALVESTON – A local man is suing the Galveston County Health District after he allegedly contracted an infectious disease following a dental appointment.

Timothy Burton filed a lawsuit against the GCHD on Aug. 16 in the Galveston County 56th District Court, blaming the defendant for his recent Hepatitis C diagnosis.

The 6-page suit asserts that the dental instruments used on Burton at the GHCD’s Coastal Health & Wellness clinic in Texas City were not kept clean and sterile to prevent the spread of blood borne viruses.

Earlier this year, the plaintiff received a letter from the defendant advising “that an investigation in conjunction with the Department of State Health Services revealed that Coastal Health & Wellness clinics located in Texas City and Galveston had exposed patients to blood borne viruses, including Hepatitis B, Hepatitis C, and HIV.”

Burton underwent testing which revealed that he had been infected with Hepatitis C, the original petition says.

Consequently, the plaintiff seeks unspecified monetary damages and a jury trial.

He is represented by the Tracey & Fox Law Firm in Houston.
