GALVESTON – A Galveston woman is seeking more than $3 million from an elevator company after an elevator injured her late mother at a hospital.

Patricia Moore, individually and as representative of the estate of Carrie Harris-Ward, deceased filed a complaint on Aug. 22 in the Galveston County District Court against EMR Elevator Inc. alleging negligence.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that on April 24, Harris-Ward was attempting to enter an elevator at Jennie Sealy Hospital when it suddenly closed on her shoulders. The suit states that as she attempted to step back, she fell hard and hit her head and body on the floor.

The plaintiff holds EMR Elevator Inc. responsible because the defendant allegedly failed to service, manage, maintain and repair the elevator to operate in a safe working condition.

The plaintiff seeks damages of no more than $3 million, plus exemplary damages, interest, costs and such other and further relief to which she is justly entitled. She is represented by Dagnee "Dee" McKinney of Law Office of Dagnee McKinney PLLC in Houston.
