BEAUMONT – A metal shelf at a Port Arthur pet store is alleged to have injured a Nederland woman's foot.

Rhonda Robertson filed a complaint on Sept. 12 in the Jefferson County District Court against Petco Animal Supplies Inc. alleging negligence.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that on Oct. 31, 2016, she was an invitee at defendant's Petco Animal Supplies store in Port Arthur when a large, heavy metal shelf fell and hit her on her foot. She alleges she suffered catastrophic injuries resulting in medical expenses, pain, mental anguish and physical impairment and disfigurement as a result.

The plaintiff holds Petco Animal Supplies Inc. responsible because the defendant allegedly failed to exercise ordinary care to reduce or eliminate the risk of harm.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks monetary relief of more than $200,000 but less than $1 million and such other and further relief to which he may be justly entitled. She is represented by Jonathan C. Juhan and J.J. Bragg in Beaumont.
