HOUSTON – An African-American man alleges his Houston employer deprived him of promotions and advancements because of his race.

Richard C. Hollis filed a complaint on Oct. 4 in the Harris County District Court against Centerpoint Energy Inc. alleging that the energy delivery company violated Title VII of the Civil Rights Act and the Texas Labor Code.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff was hired by the defendant in 1999. The plaintiff alleges the defendant defamed him "by uttering and/or publishing matters which disparaged" his capability to perform his duties. He also alleges he was deprived of promotions and advancements.

The plaintiff seeks judgment against the defendant in an amount within the jurisdictional limits of the court, plus interest, costs, attorney's fees and such other and further relief to which he may be entitled. He is represented by Woodrow Epperson of Kerrville.
