Man accuses business partner of defrauding him out of more than $80K

Lawsuits

HOUSTON – Claiming his business partner defrauded him out of more than $80,000, local resident Demitri Menin has pursued legal action.

Menin’s lawsuit, which was filed on Oct. 8 in the Harris County 269th District Court, accuses Paul Yakubovsky, of New York state, of using the plaintiff’s “good credit and name” to open various credit cards without permission.

“The defendant charged the credit cards for personal purchases without the plaintiff’s authorization and knowledge, and in the process unjustly enriched himself by using the plaintiff’s good name and credit,” the suit says.

Menin and Yakubovsky formed a catering business in April 2014. It was not until late 2016 when the respondent began to enrich himself at the plaintiff’s expense, the original petition says.

According to Menin, he discovered something was amiss when his business credit card was declined during an overseas trip in June 2017. He soon learned that Yakubovsky had opened an account with American Express using his business credentials.

The defendant is also accused of defaming Menin earlier this year.

Consequently, the complainant seeks unspecified monetary damages and a jury trial.

He is represented by Nizar A. DeWood of the law firm DeWood, P.C. in Houston.
