GALVESTON – A League City daycare is the target of a wrongful death lawsuit from a couple alleging that their infant daughter perished at the facility more than a month ago, recent Galveston County District Court records show.

Jared and Lindsey McNeel are suing Kiddie Academy International, Inc.; Bullock’s Bright Beginnings, L.L.C.; and purported proprietors Cory and Summer Bullock, doing business as Kiddie Academy of League City on behalf of the late Skylar Mae McNeel.

Described as the plaintiffs’ “most precious gift from God,” the baby girl was entrusted to the defendants last Aug. 27 on the belief that she would be cared and nurtured for, the suit, which was filed on Oct. 17 in the Galveston County 405th District Court, says.

The complainants claim that the child “took her last nap forever” when an employee of the daycare laid her face down on her stomach in a crib that was not “blanket free,” asserting the act in question violated the respondents’ own “Infant/Toddler Safe Sleep Policy” and state standards.

“She never woke up,” court documents state. “She died from asphyxiation during her nap due to the negligence of the defendants.”

The original petition further accuses the defendants of lying about the circumstances surrounding the younger McNeel’s death.

Consequently, the couple seeks unspecified monetary damages and a jury trial.

They are represented by the law firm Apffel Legal, P.L.L.C. in Galveston.
