TYLER – A Smith County resident alleges her race was a factor in her termination from a medical facility.

Tracye Cravens filed a complaint on Oct. 19 in the Tyler Division of the Eastern District of Texas against East Texas Medical Center alleging violation Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff began her employment with the defendant in 1999. She alleges a new supervisor created a hostile work environment for her and other African-American staff members. The suit states on Jan. 9, 2016, she was terminated from her employment for allegedly false reasons.

The plaintiff holds East Texas Medical Center responsible because the defendant allegedly intentionally discriminated against her on the basis of race and age and retaliated against her by terminating her employment after filing a discrimination complaint.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks economic and compensatory damages, liquidated damages, attorneys’ fees, costs, interest and such other lawful and equitable relief. She is represented by William S. Hommel Jr. of Hommel Law Firm in Tyler.
