HOUSTON – A Manvel resident alleges his race was a factor in his termination by an independent oil and natural gas company.

Corey Hodge filed a complaint on Nov. 15 in the Harris County District Court against W&T Offshore Inc. alleging race discrimination and retaliation.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff, who is black, began working for the defendant in June 2014. He alleges in May 2016, an owner of a vendor the defendant used made a derogatory comment regarding his race that the plaintiff reported. He alleges after he reported the remark, upper management executives' attitude toward him changed. The suit states on Sept. 15, 2016, he was terminated from his employment.

The plaintiff holds W&T Offshore Inc. responsible because the defendant allegedly terminated his employment in retaliation for filing complaints of racial discrimination and because of his race.

The plaintiff seeks all damages, with interest, attorney's fees, costs and such other and further relief to which he is justly entitled. He is represented by Chukwudi Egbuonu of Law Office of Chukwudi Egbuonu in Houston.
