HOUSTON – A Houston consumer alleges his car needs a new engine after an auto shop failed to tighten an oil filter, causing an oil leak.

Wesley Gibson filed a complaint on Nov. 13 in the Harris County District Court against The Slater Group LLC, doing business as Kwik Kar Lube N Tune, citing the Texas Deceptive Trade Practices Act.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that on Feb. 13, he went to defendant's shop in The Heights for a routine oil change in his 2016 Hyundai Elantra for $41.72.

Thereafter, the suit states the vehicle broke down and it was discovered by a Hyundai mechanic that there was an oil leak caused by a loose filter that had not been properly installed by the defendant. The plaintiff alleges the vehicle is undriveable until the engine is replaced.

The plaintiff holds The Slater Group LLC responsible because the defendant allegedly failed to perform services in a good and workmanlike manner.

The plaintiff seeks monetary relief of $100,000 or less and all other relief to which he is entitled. He is represented by Trista M. Johnson of The Law Office of Trista Johnson in Conroe.
