Seaman trips over pipe on vessel, files lawsuit against employer, owner

HOUSTON – A Texas seaman has initiated legal action four months after he allegedly tripped on a pipe on a vessel, according to recent Harris County District Court records.

Gilbert Sanchez is suing Enterprise Offshore Drilling LLC and Smart Fabricators of Texas LLC over the Aug. 8 incident aboard the Enterprise 263.

The lawsuit lists Enterprise as the vessel’s owner and Smart Fabricators as Sanchez’s employer.

The plaintiff states that the pipe in question “was welded to, and raised above, the deck,” faulting the defendants for failing to ensure a lack of tripping hazards.

He reportedly sustained injuries to his ankle and back.

Consequently, Sanchez seeks unspecified monetary damages and a jury trial.

The Buzbee Law Firm in Houston is representing the complainant.
