HOUSTON – The owner of a Missouri City property damaged by a tornado in 2017 alleges a contractor he hired performed defective work.

John Thomas filed a complaint on Dec. 28 in the Harris County District Court against Sunrise Certified Services alleging negligence and other counts.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that on Aug. 26, 2017, his Missouri City residence was damaged by a tornado during Hurricane Harvey. The suit states the plaintiff hired the defendant to restore and repair his home and he paid $86,612.

The plaintiff alleges the defendant's work was defective and failed to meet current code requirements, and he terminated the defendant's services and hired a new contractor.

The plaintiff holds Sunrise Certified Services responsible because the defendant allegedly failed to perform certain works as agreed and failed to perform work in a good and workmanlike manner that was free of defects.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks monetary relief of more than $200,000 but less than $1 million and such other and further relief to which he may be justly entitled. He is represented by Justin E. VandenBout and Brandon A. Gosch of Chamberlain, Hrdlicka, White, Williams & Aughtry PC in Houston.
