She served as Director of Legal Services for Ascension Texas and Chief of Strategic Partnerships and Legal Counsel to UT Health, part of the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio. She has in-depth technical knowledge regarding the nuances of Stark law, Anti-Kickback, False Claims Act, Medicare and Medicaid reimbursements, HIPAA, managed care contracting, licensure and regulatory compliance, public/private partnerships, and healthcare operations.

Smith is board-certified in healthcare administration as a Fellow in the American College of Healthcare Executives, serves on the board of the Austin/San Antonio Chapter of Texas General Counsel Forum, chairs the Austin Bar Health Law Section, and mentors healthcare start-ups through accelerators Mass Challenge and Capital Factory.

Smith holds a Bachelor of Science Degree and a Master of Science in Healthcare Administration from Trinity University.
