HOUSTON – A Cypress man has brought a wrongful termination lawsuit against a Hill Country-based concrete supplier, asserting that the business fired him for opposing its allegedly disparate employment practices.
Jamond A. Burleson filed the suit against Ingram Readymix, Inc. on Feb. 20 in the Houston Division of the Southern District of Texas.
Formerly employed by the defendant as a CDL Operator - Ready Mix Driver, Burleson explains that he unsuccessfully requested for FMLA leave to be with his dying grandmother. Ingram reportedly questioned the validity of the plaintiff’s request by forcing him to submit visual photographs of his grandmother in the hospital.
A man of African American descent, Burleson claims that the respondent permitted Hispanic workers to go on leave.
Court papers further state that Ingram terminated the plaintiff’s employment but later had him as an employee again when it acquired the business he began working for three days after his firing. According to Burleson, the defendant continued subjecting him to a hostile work environment until it fired him for the final time in late 2018.
Consequently, he seeks unspecified monetary damages.
