HOUSTON – A local hospital has been named in a former behavioral health nurse manager’s wrongful termination lawsuit.

Court documents filed on Feb. 28 in the Houston Division of the Southern District of Texas claim that SJ Medical Center, LLC, doing business as St. Joseph Medical Center, discriminated against Mary Lou Ong for sustaining “a comminuted displaced patellar fracture” on the job and then ultimately firing her.

According to Ong, she was able to “perform the essential functions of her employment with or without reasonable accommodation” following her return to work, but the defendant reassigned her to another position on the guise it was temporary.

The plaintiff was reportedly replaced and denied other positions for which she was qualified.

Having begun her employment with the respondent a decade ago, Ong was terminated in July 2017.

Consequently, the complainant seeks unspecified monetary damages and a jury trial.

She is represented by David G. Langenfeld of the Leichter Law Firm in Austin.
