Ocean vessel worker alleges negligence led to severe injuries

HOUSTON — An ocean vessel worker is suing his employer, alleging negligence caused him to be injuired at sea.

Dakota Thornton filed a complaint March 7 in Harris County District Court against Savage Services Corporation and Marathon Petroleum Company LP, alleging negligence and failure to guarantee safety of the premises.

According to the complaint, on Sept. 1, 2018, Thornton was employed by Savage Services aboard the Savage Founder. While on the vessel, the suit says, Thornton sustained severe injuries to his back, legs, hip, side and other body parts, leading to pain and mental anguish.

The defendant is accused of failing to properly supervise the crew and running an unseaworthy vessel.

Thornton seeks a jury trial and monetary relief of more than $1 million. He is represented by attorneys Jason A. Itkin, Cory D. Itkin, Ryan MacLeod and Jacob Karam of Arnold & Itkin LLP in Houston.
