AUSTIN - The Insurance Council of Texas will host its 2019 Workers’ Compensation Seminar on April 11 at the TCEA Conference Center in Austin.
More than 100 insurance industry professionals, attorneys, and regulators plan to attend this annual event which includes multiple networking opportunities throughout the day, a press release states.
“Our seminar is considered to be one of the best workers’ compensation events in Texas,” said Albert Betts, Jr., executive director of ICT. “The seminar is a chance for insurance professionals and system regulators to gather and learn about emerging trends and developments impacting the Texas workers’ compensation system.”
Registration and the seminar agenda is available at ict2019workcompseminar.org/agenda. Contact Robin Paniccia, ICT’s event coordinator, at rpaniccia@insurancecouncil.org for questions about registering for the seminar.
Among the highlights of this year’s seminar is a presentation on combatting workers’ compensation fraud which costs the Texas workers’ compensation system millions of dollars each year. Fraud investigators Kristen Rouch and Brent Walker of The Travelers Companies, Inc., will examine the best practices for investigating questionable claims. Their presentation is an opportunity for insurers and other system stakeholders to learn how they can succeed in the fight against workers’ compensation fraud.
The seminar includes presentations from industry thought leaders and experts discussing how employers and insurers can be better prepared to deal with claims involving workplace intoxication issues, and updates on national trends and issues in workers’ compensation insurance. Those in attendance will also hear the latest on the Texas legislative session and regulatory issues.
Employers and risk managers will be very interested in the afternoon panel discussion on Texas’ many definitions of an employee under workers’ compensation and other Texas laws, a press release states.
An expert panel of employer risk managers, an employment attorney, and insurance defense attorney will help provide a better understanding of when a worker is, or is not, your company’s employee.
ICT has requested approval of 6.5 continuing education hours from TDI and 5.50 clock hours from the Commission for Case Manager Certification. The seminar has been approved by the Texas State Bar for 5.50 continuing hours.
The Insurance Council of Texas is the largest state insurance trade association in the country consisting of approximately 500 property and casualty insurers writing business in Texas.
