HOUSTON — A Harris County man is suing a debt collection agency of an energy company, alleging he was called more than 1,000 times in regards to an alleged debt.

Bryan K. Braddock filed a complaint April 26 in the Houston Division of the Southern District of Texas against Just Energy Group Inc., doing business as Just Energy Texas LP, alleging violation of the Telephone Consumer Protection Act and the Texas Debt Collection Act, invasion of privacy and trespass.

According to the complaint, Braddock received energy services form the defendant at his home in Harris County. Due to financial hardship, Braddock says he fell behind on payments. The suit says in fall 2017 he began being called on his cell phone by Just Energy, which was seeking to collect on the debt.

The plaintiff says he requested Just Energy to stop calling but the defendant has failed to do so, calling Braddock more than 1,000 times. The plaintiff alleges the defendant refuses to understand his financial situation and continues to harass him.

Braddock seeks actual damages, punitive damages and all equitable and just relief. He is represented by attorneys Nathan C. Volheim and Taxiarchis Hatzidimitriadis of Sulaiman Law Group Ltd., in Lombard, Illinois.
