Roofer falls off roof, sues homeowners for $1M in damages

Law money 12

BEAUMONT – A roofer is suing the homeowners who hired him to repair their roof two years ago, alleging he was injured after he fell off the roof.

Seeking up to $1 million in damages, Leonardo Del Angel Zavala filed suit against David and Betty Reynard on April 24 in Jefferson County District Court.

The suit also names S.H. Absolute Construction and Pedro and Daniel Reyes as defendants.

According to the lawsuit, on April 24, 2017, Zavala was repairing the roof at the Beaumont home of David and Betty Reynard when he stepped of a “makeshift” safety railing made of wood planks and hangers, which “came apart” and caused him to fall 30 feet to the ground.

As the owners of the home, Zavala contends David and Betty Reynard “owed him a duty” to warn him of the dangerous condition.

Zavala further alleges S.H. Absolute Construction and Pedro and Daniel Reyes failed to provide him with a safe place to work.

He is suing for his past and future pain, disfigurement, mental anguish, medical expenses, impairment and lost wages.

Houston attorney Corey Gomel represents him.

Judge Mitch Templeton, 172nd District Court, has been assigned to the case.
