Signature Trademark Solutions allegedly unlawfully threatened woman with jail time over alleged debt

BEAUMONT – A Nacogdoches woman alleges a Florida debt collection agency unlawfully threatened her with jail time over an alleged debt.

Shandra Byrd filed a complaint on May 29 in the Beaumont Division of the Eastern District of Texas against Signature Trademark Solutions Inc. alleging violation of the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act and the Texas Debt Collection Law.

The plaintiff alleges the defendant has contacted her in an attempt to collect an alleged debt. The suit states that the defendant made false and misleading statements to the plaintiff, alleging that it had a package for her that was marked as undeliverable and also threatened her with arrest and a jail sentence. The plaintiff alleges the false statements violate the FDCPA.

The plaintiff is seeking trial by jury, attorneys' fees and costs, and other relief deemed fit. The plaintiff is represented by Joshua A. Mize of Mize Law PLLC in Jupiter, Florida.
