Houston couple alleges property inspectors botched job

HOUSTON — A Houston couple is suing a group of property inspectors, alleging the inspections were not done sufficiently.

Phillip Kravetz and Ashley Borneman filed a complaint June 16 in Harris County District Court against Jose Melendez, doing business as J.C. Lath, Efrain Castillo Canales, doing business as J.C. Lath & Plaster, Hedderman Engineering Inc., Lone Star Stucco LLC and Jeremy Holden, alleging negligence.

According to the complaint, the plaintiffs entered into a contract June 4, 2017, for the purchase of a home at 6414 Pickens St., Houston. The sale price of the house was $1.385  million.

Kravetz and Borneman allege they retained the services of Hedderman, Lone Star Stucco and Holden to perform inspections on the property. The inspections allegedly showed that stucco needed remediation and the plaintiff contracted J.C. Lath to perform the remediation under the supervision of Lone Star.

The plaintiffs said they closed on the home July 25, 2017 and in August 2017 they began to notice mold issues in their home and a defective HVAC system. The plaintiffs allege they have been harmed due to the deficiencies of the defendants, alleging had the defendants done their work properly, Kravetz and Borneman never would have suffered damages of at least $250,000.

Kravetz and Borneman seek between $250,000 and $500,000, trial by jury, attorney fees, court costs, interest and all other just. They are represented by attorney Kevin M. Madden of the Law Offices of Kevin Michael Madden PLLC in Houston.
