Clear Lake Shores couple alleges their vessel was struck by another boat driver

GALVESTON — A Clear Lake Shores couple is suing another boat driver, alleging he caused them injuries when he struck their vessel.

William A. Scanlon and Kellen M. Scanlon filed a complaint July 1 in the Galveston County District Court against Daniel R. Harms, alleging negligence,

According to the complaint, William Scanlon, with Kellen as his passenger, was operating his 1991 Arrow Glass boat June 13, 2018, in the Clear Lake channel in Seabrook. The suit states Harms, operating a 2003 Edgewater vessel, failed to give right of way to the Scanlons and rammed the plaintiffs' port side.

The collision, the suit alleges, caused the Arrow Glass to depress into the water and roll to its port side, resulting in severe bodily injuries to the plaintiffs, plus disfigurement, physical impairment and lost wages.

The plaintiffs allege Harms failed to keep proper lookout or operate at a safe speed.

The Scanlons seek monetary relief between $200,000 and $1 million, trial by jury, interest and all other equitable relief. They are represented by attorneys Darrell A. Apffel and D. Blake Apffel of Apffel Legal PLLC in Galveston.
