HOUSTON — A cyclist is suing an energy company, alleging he was struck by a low-hanging wire.

Lyle Orndorff filed a complaint July 12 in the Harris County District Court against CenterPoint Energy Inc., alleging negligence.

According to the complaint, Orndorff was traveling on Old Galveston Road's sidewalk on his bike on the evening of Feb. 9. The suit states Orndorff was struck in the head by a wire that was hanging from a utility pole at an excessively low height and lacked any protective covering.

The plaintiff alleges he sustained lasting injuries due to the negligence of the defendant that have resulted in medical expenses and loss of earning capacity.

Orndorff seeks trial by jury, relief in excess of $1 million, interest, court costs and all other just relief. He is represented by attorneys Dax Frank Garza and Lusia F. Calderon of Dax F. Garza PC in Houston.
