BEAUMONT — A former employee is suing a chemical company, alleging she was unfairly terminated due to her race.

Kimberly Hendrix filed a complaint Aug. 14 in the Beaumont Division of the Eastern District of Texas against Reagent Chemical & Research Inc., alleging discrimination and retaliation.

According to the complaint, Hendrix was hired by Raegent on Dec. 6, 2017, and worked in the defendant's Beaumont location. The plaintiff alleges that she was mistreated due to being a black woman. Following an incident in the workplace, Hendrix states she was threatened with being written up by Raegent on Feb. 26, 2018, and the plaintiff was not allowed to explain what had happened.

The plaintiff said she reached out to the human resources department to say that she had been threatened by her supervisor and, shortly afterward, was terminated.

Hendrix seeks trial by jury, attorney fees, compensatory damages, court costs and all other just relief. She is represented by attorneys David E. Bernsen, Christine L. Stetson and Tanner G.M. Franklin of Bernsen Law Firm in Beaumont.
