HOUSTON — A Brazoria County woman is suing Aetna, alleging she was terminated due to her age and race.

Wanda Magee filed a complaint Aug. 13 in Harris County District Court against Aetna Inc., doing business as Aetna Resources LLC, alleging race discrimination, age discrimination and retaliation.

According to the complaint, Magee, who was employed by Aetna for more than 30 years, was terminated from her employment Nov. 13, 2017. The suit alleges Magee began to suffer discrimination from Aetna when her employer refused to consider her for a promotion, despite Magee being highly qualified.

The plaintiff alleges she eventually was told that she was being terminated due to the department being restructured. Magee argues her termination was because she is black and the position the plaintiff requested was in a different city. However, the lawsuit states, other employees were given the opportunity to work in another city and were paid for travel.

Magee seeks monetary relief of more than $50,000, court costs, interest, attorney fees and all equitable relief. She is represented by attorney Katrina Patrick of Bellaire.
