Funeral attendee alleges Paradise Cemetery negligence caused pole to strike her

HOUSTON — A Harris County woman is suing a Houston cemetery, alleging that she was struck in the head by a pole.

Chantell Brown-Cunningham filed a complaint Aug. 22 in Harris County District Court against Paradise Cemetery South also known as Paradise Cemetery South Inc., doing business as Paradise Cemetery North, alleging negligence.

According to the complaint on Sept. 18, 2017, Brown-Cunningham was attending a funeral of her aunt at Paradise Cemetery North,  10401 W. Montgomery, Houston. The suit alleges she was injured when a pole holding the canopy over the grave fell and struck Brown-Cunningham in the head. 

The plaintiff alleges she fell to the ground and sustained a concussion, sprained neck, headaches and migraines, vertigo and nausea. The suit states this has led to pain and suffering, medical expenses and mental anguish.

Brown-Cunningham seeks between $100,000 and $1 million, interest, attorney fees, court costs and all just relief. She is represented by attorney Selissa Davis in Austin.
