HOUSTON — A seaman is suing a Houston drilling company, alleging he injured his back while in the course of his employment for the defendant.

James Stewart filed a complaint Aug. 21 in Harris County District Court against Diamond Offshore Management Company, Diamond Offshore Limited and Diamond Offshore Drilling Limited, alleging negligence

According to the complaint, Stewart was working on the M/V Ocean Blackhornet in October 2016, which was managed and owned by the defendants. The plaintiff said he was lifting heavy buckets and was carrying them up and down stairs when he felt a pop in his lower back.

The plaintiff states that he continued to work for a few months until the back injury caused him to undergo two surgeries. He alleges the defendants failed to provide a safe working environment or provide medical attention.

Stewart seeks trial by jury, attorney fees, court costs, monetary relief in excess of $1 million, interest and all just relief. He is represented by attorneys Kurt Arnold, Caj Boatright, Roland Christensen and Alison Baimbridge of Arnold & Itkin LLP in Houston.
