Huntsville patient alleges medical team rendered him impaired

HOUSTON — A Huntsville man is suing a Woodlands medical team, alleging its negligence rendered him impaired.

Tamer Stone filed a complaint Aug. 23 in Harris County District Court against The Woodlands Specialty Hospital LLC, Memorial Hermann Hospital Health System doing business as Memorial Hermann Woodlands Hospital, Memorial Hermman Health System, doing business as Memorial Hermann, The Medical Center University of Texas, University of Texas Health Science Center, doing business as UT Physicians, Dr. Thomas Synek and Dr. Rajgopal Reddy Pakanati, alleging medical negligence.

According to the complaint, on Aug. 31, 2017, Stone was given an injection of stem cells to the spine by Synek at Woodlands Specialty. The plaintiff says his treatment resulted in a dural tear, a serious complication as Stone experienced leakage of cerebral spinal fluid.

Following the discovery that Stone had suffered a complication, the suit alleges, Synek attempted a reparative therapy called a blood patch, but the treatment was unsuccessful and the plaintiff had to be transferred to Memorial Medical Center where the plaintiff experienced an unsuccessful treatment due to negligence of the defendants.

Stone alleges he was seen by other physicians and they agreed that his original treatment carried out by Synek was not necessary. The lawsuit states the plaintiff did not have a condition in his spine that required that type of treatment.

The plaintiff's long-term complications, allegedly caused by the defendants' negligence, have rendered Stone disabled. The suit says his condition has caused him to lose his job, sustain impairment, plus mental and emotional suffering.

Stone seeks more than $1 million, attorney fees, court costs, interest and all just relief. He is represented by attorneys Allan R. Brain and Susan L. Fuller in Houston.
