HOUSTON — A Harris County widow is suing an electric company, alleging her husband died from coming in contact with a live wire.

Karin Beck filed a complaint Aug. 28 in Harris County District Court against Centerpoint Energy Houston Electric LLC and MP Technologies LLC, alleging gross negligence and wrongful death.

According to the complaint, Ross Howard was employed by MP on July 9, 2018 and was installing a new power pole in Harris County for Centerpoint. The suit alleges Howard came into contact with an electrified line and was electrocuted for more than 10 seconds.

Howard, the suit states, was taken to Memorial Hermann Hospital to be treated for his burns. The lawsuit says the doctors took life-saving measures, including the amputation of both his arms below the elbows and his left leg below the knee. When even more invasive amputations involving his genitals were recommended, Beck states the family chose to take Howard off life support. He died a few days later.

Beck seeks more than $1 million in damages, trial by jury, court costs, interest and all just relief. The plaintiff is represented by attorney Jeffrey T. Roebuck of Roebuck, Thomas & Adams PLLC in Beaumont.
