HOUSTON — A visitor is suing a Houston hospital, alleging she was injured in a fall due to a poorly marked level change.

Gloria Cullins filed a complaint Aug. 29 in Harris County District Court against Methodist Health Centers, doing business as Houston Methodist West Hospital and the Methodist Hospital and TMH Medical Office Buildings, alleging negligence and liability.

According to the complaint, Cullins was at Houston Methodist West, 18500 Katy Freeway, Houston on Jan. 1, 2018, to visit her husband. Cullins said she was walking toward her parked car that was on the first-floor garage handicap-accessible space when she fell due to a drop-down of 2 to 4 inches that was not clearly marked. The plaintiff said she was not assisted, despite the defendants' employees being in close proximity.

The suit states Cullins dragged herself to the emergency room and yelled for help. She said she asked the defendants to make a report of her incident but they refused to do so.

The following day, the suit alleges, Cullins was helped to file a report but she was never contacted by the defendant. As a result of the fall, the plaintiff said she suffered physical injuries including bruising of her face and mental anguish.

Cullins seeks trial by jury, attorney fees, court costs, interest and all just relief. She is represented by attorneys Charles H. Peckham and Mary A. Martin of Peckham Martin PLLC in Houston.
