HOUSTON — A tenant is suing a Houston apartment complex, alleging she was shot due to negligence of management.

Kristen C. Wiist filed a complaint Sept. 4 in Harris County District Court against Vidya Bhaven Limited Partnership et al., alleging negligence.

According to the complaint, on June 10, while Wiist was a tenant at 13035 Windfern Road, Houston, she was shot by an unknown individual. The suit alleges the individual was able to shoot Wiist because the defendant' facilities lacked appropriate security standards, such as cameras, lighting or gates.

The plaintiff alleges the gunshots left her with severe wounds due to the defendants failing to ensure the premises was safe.

Wiist seeks monetary relief of more than $1 million, trial by jury, attorney fees, court costs, interest and all other just relief. She is represented by attorneys Brent M. Cordell and Antone L. Peterson of Smith & Hassler in Houston.
