Maritime worker alleges offshore company's negligence led to injuries, financial hardship

HOUSTON — A Texas maritime employee is suing three Louisiana offshore businesses, alleging he was injured at work and harmed financially.

Erik Ruiz filed a complaint Sept. 6 in Harris County District Court against Edison Chouest Offshore Inc., Offshore Service Vessels LLC, Galliano Marine Service LLC, alleging negligence.

According to the complaint, Ruiz was working on the vessel CC Gregory Aug. 20. The suit alleges Ruiz injured his back, abdomen, waist, shoulder, neck and other body parts. He states he sustained pain and suffering, mental anguish, medical expenses, impairment and disfigurement.

The plaintiff alleges he also was not paid by the defendants for the time he was off work and the defendants failed to provide medical care for Ruiz while he has been unable to work.

Ruiz seeks more than $1 million, trial by jury, attorney fees, court costs, interest, and all just relief. He is represented by attorney Sean E. O'Rourke of Simon & O'Rourke Law Firm PC in Webster.
