HOUSTON — A Harris County woman is suing a medical team, alleging she contracted an infection and was not treated properly.

Katherine Lerner filed a complaint Sept. 6 in Harris County District Court against Memorial Hermann Health System, doing business as Memorial Hermann-Texas Medical Center, Dr. Jeffrey David Johnson, Dr. Zi Yang Jiang and Dr. Ezenwa Chizimake Onyema, alleging negligence

Lerner says she had her wisdom teeth removed Sept. 14, 2017, and began to experience throat pain and neck movement issues three days later. The plaintiff alleges she went to Signature Care ER for a CT of her neck Sept. 21, 2017 and it showed that there was an abscess in her neck.

The complaint states Lerner was transferred to Memorial Hermann - Texas Medical Center where they failed to do a repeat CT scan. The plaintiff said she was treated with steroids and discharged Sept. 22, 2017.

However, the lawsuit states, Lerner began to experience high fever and neck pain Sept. 23, 2017 and returned to Memorial Hermann - Texas Medical Center. The ENT performed a surgical drainage but did not fully eliminate the infection. The plaintiff was discharged on Sept. 27, 2017, and returned on Oct. 9, 2017, with the same symptoms again. The plaintiff was found to have posterolateral thoractomy and left total pulmonary decortication.

Lerner seeks monetary relief of more than $1 million, trial by jury, attorney fees, court costs, interest and all other just relief. She is represented by attorneys Mark A. Weycer and Che' D. Williamson of The Weycer Law Firm PC in Bellaire.
