HOUSTON — A Bedias woman is suing a hotel, after she alleges she tripped on uneven concrete in the parking lot of a Houston Quality Suites/Choice Hotels and suffered a broken shoulder.

Sharon Johnson filed a compliant Oct. 24 in Harris County District Court against DIYA, LLC doing business as Quality Suites Cy-Fair and Choice Hotels International Inc., alleging negligence.

According to the complaint, Johnson was injured Nov. 11, 2017 when she tripped on an "uneven concrete mound" in a "poorly lit parking lot" outside the hotel in Houston. She alleges the area was not blocked off in any way that would have warned pedestrians of the hazard. The suit alleges Johnson's broken shoulder led to pain and suffering, mental anguish and loss of earnings.

"Defendants either created the condition and/or failed to correct the condition or to warn the plaintiff of the dangerous condition, which constituted negligence, and such negligence was a proximate cause of the occurrence in question and plaintiff's resulting injuries," the suit states.

Johnson seeks monetary relief of more than $1 million, interest, trial by jury and all other just relief. She is represented by attorney James Burkhalter of The Smith & Hassler Law Firm in Houston.
