HOUSTON — A woman is suing Uber, claiming she was raped by one of its drivers during a ride in Houston.
Jane Doe filed a complaint March 3 in the Harris County District Court against Uber Technologies Inc., Raiser LLC and John Hanna (driver), alleging negligence, assault, intentional infliction of emotional distress and false imprisonment.
Doe was attending a bachelorette party at a bar in downtown Houston on April 26, 2017. One of her friends scheduled an Uber ride to take Doe home, which was assigned to Hanna. She alleged that after arriving at her home, Hanna parked in her driveway and raped her in the backseat of his car. Doe claims Uber was negligent in hiring and supervising Hanna and put Uber passengers at risk of harm.
Doe seeks monetary relief, trial by jury and all other just relief. She is represented by Walt Cubberly and Margaret Lecocke of Willams Hart Boundas Easterby LLP in Houston.
