HOUSTON – Harris County is facing a lawsuit alleging one of its police cruisers slammed into the back of another vehicle which resulted in a woman suffering injuries.

Lawanda Hill filed a complaint on Dec. 24 in Harris County District Court against Harris County, alleging negligence and vicarious liability.

According to her complaint, Hill was driving her vehicle on West Sam Houston Parkway North in Houston on Dec. 26, 2018, and came to a complete stop in order to merge into traffic. Hill alleged that Harris County Police Officer Freddy Khalid, who was driving his patrol car, "violently slammed" into the back of her with the "blunt force" of the collision causing her to "thrust about her vehicle."

She claimed in the complaint that Khalid "failed to control" the speed of the patrol car and failed to keep a proper lookout. She further claimed that Khalid failed to evade the collision and apply his vehicle's brakes. Hill alleged she has suffered pain and mental anguish, disfigurement, loss of income, property damage and has incurred medical treatment expenses as a result of the accident.

Hill seeks monetary relief between $200,000 and $1 million, interest and all other just relief. She is represented by Jonathan Cox of The Cox Pradia Law Firm PLLC in Houston.
