HOUSTON — A woman is suing Sunbeam Products claiming she suffered severe burns after one of their electric blankets overheated.

Deborah Zink filed a complaint March 8 in Harris County District Court against Sunbeam Products Inc., alleging negligence, strict product liability and breach of implied warranty of merchantability.

According to Zink's complaint, she was using a Sunbeam electric blanket at her home on March 10, 2019. She claims that as she slept, the blanket "overheated and/or malfunctioned" and caused her to suffer burns and substantial pain and injury throughout her body.

Zink alleges that Sunbeam's electric blanket is "improperly designed and/or manufactured" for its intended use and does not come with "adequate" instructions or warnings for consumers.

She further alleges that Sunbeam knew or should have known that their electric blanket product was "unreasonably dangerous" and creates a risk of "serious bodily harm."

Zink seeks monetary relief, interest and all other proper relief. She is represented by Darren McBratney of Downtown L.A., Law Group in Los Angeles, California.
