Houston law firm accused of misleading client, court document omissions

HOUSTON — A Houston law firm is being accused of failing to timely file a client's motions and misleading the client into signing incorrect final judgement documents. 

Ana Maria Lara, individually and doing business as Cardenas Auto Sales, filed a complaint  April 20 in Harris County District Court against Vy Nguyen and The Law Office of Vy Nguyen PLLC alleging negligence and breach of fiduciary duties. 

According to her complaint, the defendants represented Lara from Dec. 12, 2018, through July 2020, in a case filed against her by The Jackson Law Firm in Houston in which they were seeking attorneys' fees. She claims the defendants "engaged in acts of omission and commission" by failing to "timely and/or fully respond" to her motion for summary judgement and failed to "properly prosecute" her malpractice counterclaim. 

Lara also claims the defendants "did not prosecute" her claim or defense for "excessive fees for hours" and failed to submit a proper discovery request. 

Lara further alleges the defendants had her initial papers that falsely stated her final summary judgement "was granted for $408,068.82 and attorney's fees of $7,718.50." She also claims the defendants misled her to believe the initialed papers "would not be given to the plaintiff in the underlying suit or filed with the court." 

Lara claims due to the defendants' negligence, she has suffered economic damages of at least $528,000. 

Lara seeks monetary relief of at least $528,000, interest, trial by jury and all other just relief. She is represented by Wayne Paris of The Paris Law Group PLLC in Houston.
