HOUSTON — Macy's Texas is facing a suit after a customer was injured when the 60 pound wood backing at a register became dislodged.

Lori Stephenson filed a complaint May 29 in Harris County District Court against Macy's Texas Inc., alleging negligence and premises liability.

Stephenson claims in her suit that she was shopping at the Macy's Department Store on Broadway Street in Pearland on July 28, 2019. She alleges that as she was purchasing her items at the cash register, a "large 60 pound wood backing" of the register became dislodged and caused the register panel and counter to slam into her leg and ankle.

Stephenson claims Macy's "intentionally failed to fix" the panel and was negligent in failing to monitor the condition of the store premises. She also claims Macy's failed to train its employees or warn of the hazard. Stephenson alleges she has suffered impairment, disfigurement and incurred medical costs as a result of the accident.

Stephenson seeks monetary relief between $250,000 and $1 million, interest and all just relief. She is represented by Audia Jones of The Law Office of Audia Jones PC in Houston.
