HOUSTON — Clear Lake Hospital and two of its physicians are facing a suit after a wire was left inserted in a patient's leg during a coronary artery bypass graft.

Larry Blackman and Deborah Blackman filed a complaint June 7 in Harris County District Court against Abdul Hannan Chaugle, M.D., Khaja Moinuddeen, M.D., HCA Houston Healthcare Clear Lake doing business as Clear Lake Hospital and CHCA Lake LP alleging negligence.

According to the plaintiffs' complaint, Larry Blackman underwent a coronary artery bypass graft on March 21, 2019, peformed by Chaugle and Moinuddeen at HCA Houston Clear Lake Hospital. The plaintiffs claim that the defendant physicians left a wire inserted into Blackman's left inguinal region during the procedure which should have been removed.

The Blackmans allege the wire should have been removed during surgery and that it was not discovered until eight months later in Blackman's leg after he continued to experience pain in the area. They also claim Blackman required surgery to remove the wire but all of the wire could not be removed and that a portion of the wire remains in his leg. The plaintiffs allege the defendants failed to use "ordinary care" during his treatment.

The plaintiffs seek monetary relief between $250,000 and $1 million, interest, trial by jury and all other just relief. They are represented by  Andrew Leibowitz of The Leibowitz Law Group PLLC in Dallas.
