HOUSTON — The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center is facing a suit alleging it negligently administered chemotherapy to a patient suffering from sepsis which led to his death.

Karla Redmon individually and as representative of the Estate of Glenn Redmon and Children, Dr. Brook Redmon Dickinson, Blair Redmon Ary and Kendra Redmon filed a complaint July 13 in Harris County District Court against The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center alleging liability.

According to the plaintiffs' complaint, Glenn Redmon sought chemotherapy treatment for his leukemia at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center on July 11, 2019. They allege that despite showing signs of an infection including a fever, that Redmon was given chemotherapy treatment. The plaintiffs claim Redmon's fever became worse and that he was admitted to the emergency room and the ICU at MD Anderson where he was diagnosed with sepsis.

Redmon's health continued to decline and then passed away on July 13, 2019, according to the suit. The plaintiffs allege that The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center nurses and doctors "violated the standard of care" by failing to recognize Redmon's infection and giving him chemo treatment while he had an "already compromised immune system."

The plaintiffs seek monetary relief between $250,000 and $1 million, interest, trial by jury and all other just relief. They are represented by Brett Thomas of Roebuck, Thomas, Roebuck & Adams in Beaumont.
