HOUSTON — The family of a patient who died of a serious heart condition after being released from HCA Houston Healthcare Conroe is claiming negligence.
Gavin Loreth, Kered Loreth and Sharon Rodriguez filed a complaint July 13 in Harris County District Court against Hospital Docs PA, Adnan Afzal, M.D., Adnan Afzal, M.D., PA doing business as Healing Hearts, Ali A. Bhuriwala, M.D., and Ebrahim Mustafa Mogri, M.D., alleging negligence and other claims.
Derek Loreth, who was 46 years old at the time, was admitted to HCA Houston Healthcare Conroe on March 8, 2020, for chest and back pain and nausea, according to the plaintiffs' suit. They allege that despite Loreth showing symptoms of "aortic dissection," he was discharged on March 10, 2020, and later that evening died at his home.
The plaintiffs claim that the defendants failed to provide Loreth with proper care and treatment and breached the "applicable standards of care." They further claim the defendants failed to recognized and understand the "importance of the signs and symptoms" Loreth was exhibiting and that his symptoms were "indicative of an aortic dissection" which is what caused his death.
The plaintiffs seek monetary relief of more than $1 million, interest, trial by jury and all other just relief. They are represented by Joseph Alexander, Jr., and Joshua Alexander of The Alexander Firm PLLC in Houston and J. Wayne Little and Paula Elliott of Elliott & Little in Conroe.
