HOUSTON — A worker at a Houston area landfill who suffered injuries while trying to unload trash in a debris filled area is claiming the negligence of his employer.

Regina S. Walls filed a complaint July 19 in Harris County District Court against GFL Environmental Services USA Inc., alleging negligence and liability.

Walls was working as an employee of GFL Environmental at its East Mount Houston waste collection facility on East Mount Houston Road on April 8, 2021, according to his complaint. He alleges that he was directed to unload trash at the Hardy Road Landfill in an area where the ground was "cluttered with debris" which caused him to slip and fall.

Walls claims as a result of the fall, he suffered injuries to his wrist, hand, shoulder, back and other parts of his body, lost wages as well as incurred medical expenses for ambulance services, an ER visit, physical therapy and prescriptions.

He alleges the area where he was sent to unload should have been "cleared and safe" for him to get in and out of his truck while completing his job. Walls claims the defendant was negligent for failing to maintain a safe and proper workplace and failed to provide him with the proper equipment "to perform the task at hand."

Walls seeks monetary relief, interest, trial by jury and all other just relief. He is represented by Scott Sanes of The Sanes & Larkin Law Firm LLP in Pearland.
