HOUSTON — A woman who suffered lesions and other injuries after staying in a bed bug infested room at an Embassy Suites Hotel in Katy is claiming negligence.

Topeka Rogers filed a complaint July 30 in Harris County District Court against Energy Plaza Hotel Investment LTD doing business as Embassy Suites Hotel Energy Corridor, Aimbridge Hospitality LLC and Embassy Suites Management LLC alleging negligence, violation of the Texas Deceptive Trade Practices Act and breach of contract.

According to her complaint, Rogers checked into the Embassy Suites on Katy Freeway in Houston in July of 2019. She claims that "during the night," she began to experience itching and "painful lesions" on her body and discovered bed bugs crawling in the room.

Rogers further claims that the hotel staff "confirmed" the bed bugs and claims the hotel's negligence for failing to disclose "the relevant bed bug history of the property" and that had she known the property was "infested by bedbugs," she would have stayed at another property. She alleges Embassy Suites failed to "rent a property in a reasonably safe condition."

Rogers seeks monetary relief between $250,000 and $1 million, interest and all other just relief. She is represented by Tad Rice of The Rice Firm in The Woodlands.
