HOUSTON — A refrigeration company who services and inspects freezers for Target stores is facing a suit after a woman slipped on leaking water from a freezer at a Houston Target that had just been serviced.

Angely Munoz filed a complaint Aug. 6 in Harris County District Court against Hussmann Corporation, Hussmann Corporation doing business under the fictitious name of Hussmann Refrigeration Inc., Coolsys Commerical & Industrial Solutions Inc., formerly known as Source Refrigeration & HVAC Inc., and AcornVac Inc., alleging premises liability and negligence.

Munoz alleges in her complaint that while walking through the Target store located on Westheimer Road in Houston on Aug. 8, 2019, that she suddenly slipped on water that had accumulated on the floor near the freezers. She claims she fell "forcefully on the ground" and suffered "severe and "extensive" injuries and that "Target representatives" told her they were aware of the condensation problem.

Munoz further claims Target indicated they had just paid the defendants to fix the condensation issue prior to her slip and fall. She alleges the defendants' faulty inspection, maintenance and repair of the freezers at Target resulted in her accident and that Target had notified them of similar design and construction issues with the freezers at other Target stores throughout the country.

Munoz also alleges she has suffered physical pain, mental anguish, lost earnings and incurred medical bills as a result of her fall.

Munoz seeks monetary relief between $250,000 and $1 million, interest and all other just relief. She is represented by Jeffrey Todd of The Todd Law Group PLLC in Houston.
